Into the Catacombs

Timeline: Ongoing

The doors are unlocked and opened, looking as ominous as ever. Intrepid explorers enter with hesitance, anxiety, or perhaps a sense of excitement.this area is unexplored, and people have been both warned away and ushered toward it, the entering of the dangerous-looking door being a subject of much debate, but it was finally time to see what, if anything, would be unleashed upon the settlement.

The biggest danger upon entrance is forgetting, as was once warned. It isn't immediate, but a gradual thing, yet pretty soon all who enter begin to forget things. Names, faces, happenings, purposes... they slowly slip away with time. In addition, those who enter the door slowly are forgotten by those outside. It is just as gradual for them, losing small interactions, names, faces, larger, more important interactions... These things slip away, at least until those who have entered return from underground.

[This is a mingle-style log that will have a number of scenes for characters to explore. Feel free to post top-levels under the desired scene's post.]

Summary: Everyone has come back from the trip to the fruit grove, and there are new arrivals to get settled in and reunions to be had! Also I guess some fruit, if you're into that. [For more info on the event, please refer to this post.]

After a fruitful(hah) adventure, everyone somehow made their way back in the direction of the only known civilization. Upon getting within a day's walk from the fortress, network communications start, and then there are two options for where the travelers should find their rest.

The Fort Between

As soon as they head in the direction of the fortress, the powers fade, and those returning will see that many things they'd left behind are in shambles compared to how they were left. Belief items are lost, including clothes, but it seems like many people are still here, and new people may want to find a more permanent place to settle down and familiarize themselves with the 'hub' of activity.

The Emergency Camp

With efforts headed by Mizuki, a small camp has been set up about a day's walk from the settlement. Here, your powers are returned to you, but network communications are cut off once more. This place is likely populated with tents and fireplaces, but things should be upkept well enough, and you can get clothes/food/supplies here, though none can be taken back to the fortress.

Bumpy Roads Ahead

At 11:59 pm on August 31st, something unusual will happen. Aletheia's Orb will glow, dimly at first until the light expands outward, the pace picking up until a sudden wave of light will wash over the settlement for a few moments.

The effect will not be obvious for a few minutes. Confusing, puzzlement to anyone awake or awakened by the disturbance and then suddenly, everything has changed.

Aletheia has washed the settlement with a dose of truth, the truth of the cold dark world they live in.

Any items created with belief have vanished.

All powers, belief and otherwise are completely negated.

Repairs, such as the aqueducts and the good state of the bathhouse remain, but the summoned water in the bathhouse has vanished.

Sex will not restore one's powers, but will keep them from fading.

All items found in the world, earned on Carvaka Quest or found in the Catacombs remain for they are real.

New Arrivals

The ground beneath them was lush and fertile, the sun breaking through trees and everywhere they looked, were various fruits growing, the fragrance fresh and delicious.

The entire grove was beautiful, but what lay outside of it left much to be desired, once they got moving.

A party of intrepid explorers were expected to arrive any day now.

Eating the fruit causes a wide variety of effects.

Another One Bites The Dust

Last night, it seemed quiet in the settlement, until the snarling of canine attackers descended once more on the settlement. Their numbers limited by the efforts of the people left behind during the expedition, they had grown smarter, swifter, and even during the chase the sound was low so as not to disturb those still sleeping. If anything was heard throughout the night, it would be the sound of banging on the Library door, before the sound of numerous bare feet running out and away from the settlement.

In the morning, the first thing that might be noticeable would be a blood trail, a few corpses of the canine assailants left alongside buildings, the wounds mostly being blunt-force to the head, with some crude slashes here or there, and on the door of the Library was a piece of paper nailed to the wood.

Denizens;
I understand your wariness of me, and don't want to keep you. Here is what I have found in the High Art in your Hedonist Tomb.

"There was a time when We were numerous, and We were few. Brothers and Sisters in Reality, we toiled together to make this resting place for our Elders so that they might escape the plague of the Future.
Perception and Knowledge; Reality can be one or both, and while we know this now, Our proximity has caused great pain and chaos, and so we must part and consider this to be Lost.

New Eyes must see the Origin and decide through their Will the fate of Reality."

This is all I could get to. Know the Catacombs are vast, and that more can be done, but you have to find the Key. You cannot find freedom if you don't embrace your fears. I urge caution, but I ~~am changing my opinion~~ am of the mind that... the door in the Catacombs should be investigated.

From there, droplets of blood trailed out toward the entrance of the settlement, but never seemed to reach it. Nor were there any large smears indicating anything was dragged, nor a large struggle. All that was known now was that Eris' cottage lay empty, abandoned.
